This role oversees the full spectrum of financial and accounting operations in Malaysia, acting as a key financial partner to senior management in Malaysia and the regional finance team in Hong Kong. The position focuses on driving continuous business improvement while ensuring compliance with local statutory and audit requirements. Additionally, this role emphasizes the importance of internal controls and implements financial measures and procedures to minimize risks and maintain the integrity of financial reports.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily finance and accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings, budgets, forecasts, and regional financial reporting.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to support informed management decisions.
- Provide financial analysis, monitor actual vs. budget performance, and offer strategic insights and recommendations to the General Manager and operational heads for business improvements.
- Ensure compliance with local financial regulations and internal control policies to mitigate risks and maintain financial accuracy.
- Manage cash flow, treasury, and working capital requirements to support daily operations and future investments. Establish strong relationships with banks and creditors to secure favorable financial terms.
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely completion of audits, tax filings, and compliance with statutory requirements and accounting standards.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and business partnership.
- Support ad hoc financial projects and analysis while assisting finance teams in other countries as needed.
Requirements
Education:
- University degree in Finance or Accounting, with professional membership in HKICPA or equivalent (CA/ACCA/CPA/ICMA).
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and spreadsheet applications.
- Leadership and teamwork skills with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Malaysian.
- High efficiency and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service mindset with a sense of urgency and commitment to deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks under pressure.
