Job Purpose:
The Group Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and driving improvements across key financial functions, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), consolidation, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and Treasury. This role will provide strategic financial leadership across all regions of operation, with a primary focus on maintaining and enhancing financial controls, reporting systems, and processes for the company’s Malaysian headquarters and Southeast Asian subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Consolidation:
- Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all regional entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), where applicable.
- Lead the group-wide financial consolidation process, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment across the region.
- Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits and ensure the preparation of audit deliverables on time.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual financial report, including management discussion and analysis (MD&A).
Accounts Payable (AP) & Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Manage and streamline AP and AR processes to ensure timely and accurate payment and collection cycles across all operations.
- Oversee the reconciliation and management of outstanding payables and receivables, ensuring appropriate resolution of issues.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and local regulatory requirements in all AP and AR functions.
- Lead and mentor the AP and AR teams across different regions, ensuring proper training and development.
General Ledger (GL):
- Oversee and review the GL entries, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
- Supervise monthly closing procedures, ensuring that all journal entries are properly recorded and reviewed in a timely manner.
- Ensure proper documentation of accounting records and financial data for internal and external audits.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting process, collaborating with business units to align with overall company goals.
- Provide key financial insights, analyses, and recommendations to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
- Conduct variance analysis to compare budgeted vs. actual performance, providing explanations and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Drive the preparation of business case models, ROI analysis, and scenario planning to support business growth and capital investment decisions.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management:
- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity management to ensure operational efficiency and financial stability.
- Oversee the company’s treasury function, including managing relationships with banks and financial institutions, and optimizing working capital.
- Ensure compliance with banking regulations, optimize funding structures, and implement cash management strategies to support business operations.
- Monitor foreign exchange risks and hedge where appropriate.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and manage the finance team, including recruitment, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure high standards of financial accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams to align financial objectives with operational goals.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or CA preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Strong experience in financial reporting, consolidation, AP/AR, FP&A, and treasury functions.
- Proven experience in managing multi-country or regional finance operations, particularly in Southeast Asia.
- Experience working in a retail environment or a multinational corporation is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS), IFRS, and other relevant financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in working with ERP systems for financial consolidation and reporting.
- Leadership & Communication:
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide teams across multiple regions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively report to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Other Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English is essential
