about the Role
We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of a leading supermarket chain. This role requires expertise in insolvency, corporate recovery, and financial restructuring, ensuring financial stability and risk management. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with branch finance teams, legal advisors, and senior management to drive recovery efforts, optimize financial performance, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare consolidated financial statements across all branches in compliance with IFRS/GAAP.
- Monitor key financial indicators, including cash flow, debt levels, and operational profitability.
- Ensure VAT/GST and corporate income tax compliance across the group.
- Conduct financial due diligence to assess risks and recovery opportunities.
- Optimize financial systems to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Corporate Recovery & Restructuring
- Collaborate with legal and restructuring consultants to develop recovery plans.
- Oversee the preparation of statements of affairs, liquidation accounts, and debt restructuring schedules.
- Act as the primary liaison with creditors, negotiating transparent repayment plans.
- Support turnaround initiatives, including branch closures, asset sales, and operational restructuring.
- Provide strategic insights on asset divestments, mergers, and cost containment strategies.
Operational & Business Support
- Work closely with branch managers to develop budgets that align with financial realities.
- Monitor shrinkage, inventory turnover, and COGS, implementing cost-control measures.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to manage risks related to supplier credit terms and payment delays.
- Maintain strong relationships with creditors, auditors, and regulatory bodies during restructuring phases.
- Ensure transparent financial reporting to shareholders and the board on financial recovery efforts.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with professional qualifications such as ACCA or MIA is preferred
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a retail grocery or supermarket environment (mandatory).
- Strong expertise in insolvency, corporate recovery, or financial restructuring, particularly in retail grocery or asset-heavy industries.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable business insights.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to work effectively across departments and external partners.
- High attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience in assessing financial distress and developing strategies to address cash flow challenges, creditor disputes, and branch closures.
